the letter

one day, a friend of Pak Pandir's asked him to write a letter for him. "Where will the letter be sent?" asked Pak Pandir. "To Penang" the friend replied. "I cannot go there," said Pak Pandir. "But you don't have to go. the letter will be sent there" explained the friend. "That may be so," explained Pak Pandir, "But nobody can read my writing. Therefore, i have to travel to Penang to read it."

Old Grave

one day, Pak Pandir said this to his family, "if i die, bury me in an old grave." "why?" they asked "because," Pak Pandir explained, "if the angels come, I can tell i died years before and have already been questioned. hopefully then, thay will return to whence they came"

The Buffalo

when his wife died, Pak Pandir was very sad and mourned for her for forty days . then his buffalo died . Pak Pandir became very sad and mourned for the buffalo for three months. the village folk were perturbed and ask why he had mourned for his buffalo more than his wife. "When my wife died" said Pak Pandir, "everyone said they would find a younger and better wife for me, but when my buffalo died, nobody offered me the same service."

easy method of birth

a woman in Pak Pandir's was giving birth to her first child. it was going to be a difficult birth. Many hours passed as her relatives waited for the impending birth. The relatives began to get restless, so they sent to Pak Pandir. He ambled over, carefully listened to their story and left. After a few moments, he returned with a squeaky toy. The relatives bewildered. One of them decided she had to know why he had brought such a toy . "Because the child will hear the squeaky toy and will rush out to play" replied Pak Pandir.
